There are almost 4,000 print and audio-visual items in various Collections. Click on underlined words to see a list of each Collection’s contents. Prefixes indicate particular Collections. Books on Jungian psychology and complementary topics comprise the Main Collection. The broad range of subjects supported is listed here. Owing to the multi-topical nature of their contents, books are shelved alphabetically by the first four letters of the author or editor’s surname.
There is a considerable collection of books on child and adolescent psychology interspersed in the Main Collection, thanks to the professional members of the Cape Town Child & Adolescent Psychology Group who bring their expertise to bear on developing these areas.
The Reference Collection
These books are for use in the Library. They are marked with the prefix R. Two copies of Jung’s Red Book are kept in Reference; one of the copies may be borrowed under certain conditions.
The FM Collection
Collections of fairytales, folklore, myths and legends derived from countries and cultures all over the world are shelved alphabetically by compiler or editor in the FM section.
The General Collection
Relevant books in related fields such as Philosophy (G100), Comparative religion (G200), Sociology (G300) & Anthropology (G500) – particularly of Africa and Southern Africa – and a few books on Art (G700), are shelved in their broad subject groups.
The Journal Collection
Journal issues are shelved in a single stack in the Library, and are available for borrowing in the same way as books. The latest issues are kept on display in the Library for perusal, until replaced by a new issue.
The Pamphlet Collection
Ephemeral material such as articles, pamphlets, and booklets have been catalogued and shelved separately. Refer to the Librarian for retrieval.
