July 26Renos Papadopoulos

'Accompaniment’ as a therapeutic approach

Speaker: Renos Papadopoulos

The concept of accompaniment has an interesting and varied history. It was mainly connected with Liberation Theology, referring to walking the road with the downtrodden, instead of offering them therapeutic help from a position of superiority. The implications of this concept will be explored in relation to therapeutic work in non-traditional settings where psychotherapy ‘proper’ is not possible or not indicated. Further, the relevance of this approach to Jungian analytical contexts will be illustrated where therapists join with the positive elements of their analysands’ psyche. Examples from clinical practice in both non-traditional field therapeutic work, and analytical work in the consulting room, will be presented and discussed.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS LECTURE WILL BE HELD ON A WEDNESDAY
